Sometimes I’m asked why we got so complicated. Why not look for a huge factory that gets out thousands of pairs a day, no questions asked, no proper names. And the answer is that, if we did that, we would cease to be Uaabi.

Our process is not in textbooks; it is in a geographical triangle of Alicante which is, for me, the heart of the shoe world. A triangle of know-how that defines us.

Born in Elda: The origin and soul

Elda is my home. It’s a city that has been breathing shoes for centuries. Traditionally known for the most elegant women’s shoes in the world, at Elda we learned that a shoe not only has to be comfortable, it has to have presence. This is where ideas are born, where we draw the lines of a Hoop or a Glaad. In Elda we learned that design is, in reality, a form of respect towards those who are going to wear the shoe.

Italy: Leather and components

For a shoe to be truly premium, you can’t hide mediocre materials under a pretty logo. That’s why we’re going to Italy. There are our suppliers, people who know leather better than their own family. We select high-quality beef skins and crossbred liners that let your feet breathe. In Italy we seek what is not seen, but felt: the structure, the reinforcements, the honesty of the materials.

Almansa: The hands that give life

Finally, the journey ends in Almansa. There, in a family-run factory that has been making shoes by hand since the 1920s, is where the magic happens. They are not machines that make your Uaabi; they are people.

Each pair of hand-braided Mokassin or each Wenner with its manual shading goes through dozens of thought-out steps. It is cut, sewed, baked and finished with a patience that today seems like an act of rebellion. There are no shortcuts. Nothing is left to chance.
